What is an NIE?
The NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is the identity number for foreigners in Spain. Without an official NIE you cannot be registered with Spanish social security (Seguridad Social), and without that you cannot work legally. You also need it to open a bank account, sign a rental contract and deal with Spanish authorities.
Not everyone can get an NIE, and it is harder for British citizens after Brexit. We check your situation first and tell you honestly what is possible.
